NTC has pioneered a wide range of activities
- Publish The Journal of Media Literacy since 1953
- A five-site international, two-way interactive videoconferencing Media Literacy Forum in 2003
- Visions/Revisions: Moving Forward with Media Education, a new anthology containing the most up-to-date thinking about media literacy education by top authors from around the world, published 2003
- Look Listen Evaluation Project, from 1953 to 2000
- National Media Literacy Conferences from 1953 to 1999
- Children’s Film Festivals, from 1962 to 1967
- Media Literacy Institutes and In-services for teachers, from 1967 to present
- Innovative Community-wide awareness projects to promote media literacy
- Development of the dedicated children’s channel KIDS-4 in 1977, still in operation involving more than 1000 children over a 26 year period
- The 1981 Kids-to-Kids International Satellite Interconnect between U.S. and Australia, later cablecast on CSPAN and made into a documentary shown on Madison’s PBS station and on other cable outlets
- Sponsored almost 400 recognition awards that honored funders of outstanding programs, commercial as well as public, from 1965 to 1991
- Created the prestigious Jessie McCanse Award for outstanding individual contribution to the field of media literacy, from 1987 to present
