McCanse Award to Brammall

At the conclusion of his month-long series of Madison Workshops, John Brammall was honored as the 1990 recipient of the Jessie McCanse Award for Individual Contribution to Media Literacy.

In making the presentation at the NTC Board's dinner meeting in Rockford, Illinois, NTC President Tomas cited Mr. Brammall's longtime dedication to media education as a family life skill. "For over ten years," she stated, "John has been developing his ideas as a psychologist and educator, to create a non-prescriptive and dynamic approach to managing television in the family. His persistent work within his native Tasmania, and his ongoing association with NTC have made us aware of his unique approach and his lasting contribution."

In accepting the plaque, Mr. Brammall's surprised delight was evident. "This award is both an honour and an inspiration," he said. "I am deeply moved and, will cherish it always, along with the memory of this time together for both my wife Valerie and myself, and the friendships we have gained here in Wisconsin."
